Created as an attempt to transfer a pilot between nested dimensions. To pass between universes, to pierce the veil, to possibly glance forward and backward in time..
The only test pilots who survived were catatonic or only capable of gibbering nonsense.
They spoke of a world with people who owned minute glass and metal slabs which contained the whole knowledge of combined Human history, art and literature.
But which were only used for arguing and viewing pictures of kittens.
